Novaset water-based varnishes for sheet-fed offset
Novaset water-based sheetfed offset varnishes help protect the print and achieve the desired surface effect. Compare gloss, matte, satin, soft touch and variants for special packaging applications. Select the varnish to match the substrate, varnishing unit and further processing.
How to choose water-based varnishes for the order?
Start with the finished print’s purpose. Specify substrate, one- or two-sided coating and conditions of use. Gloss does not replace a barrier. Low migration does not establish suitability for food contact.
Check the compatibility of the ink with process inks or inks according to the Pantone scale. For Novaset varnishes, choose inks suitable for varnishing, with appropriate resistance to alcohol and alkalis. Before applying, perform a test on the target substrate.
How to read parameters? Viscosity is given in seconds for a DIN 4 mm cup at 20°C. Application means the weight of the wet varnish layer in g/m². These are data from technical data sheets, not one universal machine setting. When selecting a specific batch, confirm the current specification.
Gloss and print protection
Glossy water-based varnishes: GLOSS and HIGH GLOSS
Highlight the color and protect the surface against abrasion. Select a gloss for a given paper and varnishing method. Choose ECO for economical use. Compare HIGH GLOSS and INULINE for a stronger visual effect.
What do you get?
Compare gloss and print protection. For two-sided coating, check the permitted variant and test the actual substrate.
What should you look out for?
Not every gloss varnish is suitable for both sides. You can use INULINE for commercial work and non-food packaging. Don’t automatically attribute low migration properties to it.

Novaset® 4211/40 ECO GLOSS
Economical gloss and abrasion protection. For the outside of food packaging.
Choose from a calm look or a velvety feel. ECO NEUTRAL reduces shine, SILK MATT gives a satin effect, and MATT has a distinct matte effect. SOFT TOUCH adds a soft surface to packaging and commercial printing.
What do you get?
Choose PREMIUM when you need fast drying and high abrasion resistance alongside the visual finish. ECO allows you to choose a neutral, satin or matte effect for everyday work.
What should you look out for?
Soft Touch does not replace every matt coating. Check the surface feel on a sample. For two-sided coating, confirm the result and pile behaviour before production.

Novaset® 4401/40 ECO NEUTRAL
Low gloss and neutral appearance. Economical surface protection.
Adjust surface friction for further processing and transportation. HIGH SLIP increases glide. ANTI SLIP limits slipping. Choose the effect consciously, instead of just the shine.
What do you get?
Water-based varnishes from this group combine slip control with surface protection. You can choose gloss or matte, depending on your design and production needs.
What should you look out for?
Do not select HIGH SLIP if the job requires more friction. Confirm the behavior of the finished packaging during gluing, stacking and transportation. The result depends on the entire process.

Novaset® 4214/40 HIGH SLIP
Glossy variant with very high slip and good print protection.
Water-based varnishes for packaging: DFC, barrier, temperature and IML
Select the varnish according to the conditions of use of the finished packaging. You will choose a different variant for food contact, another for IML labels. Temporary barrier and temperature resistance also require separate selection.
What do you get?
DFC designates variants for specific direct food contact. TEMP RST responds to temperature requirements, and IML helps in further label processing.
What should you look out for?
Low migration does not automatically mean allowing direct contact with all foods. Check the type of food, contact time and temperature, and documentation of the finished packaging. Barrier varnish provides a temporary barrier, not permanent insulation.

Novaset® 4101/40 HIGH GLOSS DFC
Very high gloss. Direct contact with dry, non-greasy food. One-sided.
Water-based primers for UV varnishing and lamination
Provide a suitable layer for further surface treatment. Choose an offline primer for a separate coating or lamination stage. Match an inline primer to a double-coating press.
What do you get?
OFF PRIMER GLOSS and OFF PRIMER MATT provide water-based priming. They improve adhesion for subsequent UV coating or film lamination. You can choose gloss or matte.
What should you look out for?
The water primer does not replace the final UV layer. 4520/50 IN PRIMER GLOSS requires an appropriate UV varnish and a double varnishing unit. Before production, check the adhesion of the entire system.

Novaset® 4510/40 OFF PRIMER GLOSS
Offline primer for UV varnish and foil lamination. Also for low and non-absorbent substrates.
Stir the varnish thoroughly before use. Protect it from frost, overheating and direct sun. Store the described varnishes in their original packaging at a temperature of 5-30°C. When drying, control the circulation of warm air and the temperature of the stack. Simply increasing the IR power may worsen the result.
Clean the coating unit immediately after use, following the press and coating instructions. Discuss suitable auxiliaries with us or check VARN chemicals for print shops.
