Ink wash or roller decalcifier?

A wash removes ink, a decalcifier removes calcium deposits, and Roller Lube lubricates rollers running without ink. These are three different tasks. Identify the residue and rubber before choosing a product.

Roller wash or calcium remover — Varn Calcium Deglazer for calcium deposits

Cleaner or calcium remover: what do you need to remove?

Requirement Type of product What to check?
Removing ink Suitable cleaner Ink type, roller material, and cleaning method
Removing calcium deposits Calcium remover (e.g., Calcium Deglazer) Surface type and rinsing procedure
Operating a printing unit without ink Lubricant (e.g., Roller Lube) Compatibility with rubber and machine operating conditions

First, define the task. Next, verify the compatibility of the product with the machine and the surface. Only then should you compare packaging and usage costs. Do not compare the price per liter of products designed for different tasks.

Calcium Deglazer: calcium deposits on rollers and blankets

Varn Calcium Deglazer is an acidic calcium remover for rollers and blankets. It does not replace routine ink washing. Remove ink with a suitable wash before decalcification. Afterwards, rinse with water as instructed.

If the type of deposit is unknown, do not start by using a random mixture of agents. Note where the problem occurs and how frequently it returns. When placing an order, specify the wash currently in use and the material of the rollers. A description such as “the rollers are dirty” is insufficient to identify the deposit.

Roller Lube: lubricating a unit running without ink

Varn Roller Lube Used to lubricate rollers in a printing unit that is not currently in use. It is neither a wash nor a decalcifier. The mineral oil-based version is not suitable for EPDM rubber.. Do not confuse it with the separate UV Roller Lube product.

Information required before purchasing chemical products

  • Machine model and the specific area where the product will be used.
  • Ink type: conventional, UV or another confirmed system.
  • Roller or blanket material, especially whether it is EPDM.
  • Exact purpose: cleaning, decalcifying, or lubricating.
  • Machine manual, technical data sheet, and safety data sheet for the product.

Before use, check the current technical data sheet and safety data sheet. Implement the required protective measures. Product comparisons are not a substitute for safe operating instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Can a decalcifier replace the daily wash?

No. Ink removal and calcium removal are different tasks. Calcium Deglazer also requires a separate rinsing stage.

Does Roller in the name establish compatibility with every rubber?

No. Check the material and the specific variant. This is particularly important for EPDM rubber and UV-curing systems.
